Cadbury reduced the size of several of its popular chocolate products, again. Cadbury is calling these reductions "down weight".

We know them better as "shrinkflation", when a product is reduced in size but the price remains the same. The end result: less delicious chocolate to enjoy.

A spokesperson for Mondelez Australia, the makers of Cadbury, confirmed the changes to nine.com.au.

"Like many food companies, we continue to face elevated costs across our supply chain including cocoa, fuel, packaging, energy and logistics," they said.

"While cocoa prices have eased from record highs, they remain above historical levels, making chocolate more expensive to produce.

"We have worked hard to absorb these costs where possible, but after careful consideration we made the difficult decision to reduce the size of some of our products to keep our range accessible without increasing the recommended retail price.

"We offer a wide range of products and formats so consumers can choose what best suits their needs and budget, and our focus remains on delivering great-tasting chocolate Australians know and love, made right here in Australia."

Cadbury Old Gold in 70 per cent, Dark, and Jamaican Rum & Raisin have been reduced from 180g to 165g.

This is despite global cocoa prices falling significantly in 2026 following record-breaking highs seen in 2024 and early 2025.

The product change was first noticed by a local shopper who took to Reddit's 'Australia' thread.

"Cadbury bars are 45g now down from 50g. We're being mugged in broad daylight," they posted online alongside a photo of both bars lying side by side.

The practice of reducing the size of products instead of increasing the price is known as "shrinkflation", and this isn't the first time Cadbury has done it.
