The rumours are true: Arnott’s drops bold flavour collaboration as part of growing trend
Updated . First published
Arnott’s has finally dropped its highly anticipated Shapes ‘Bizza’ flavour in supermarkets nationwide, as part of a growing trend of major food brands creating bizarre flavour collaborations.
Initial reports of Shapes Bizza – a blend of the classic barbecue and pizza flavours – began circulating in late March, leaving many to assume it was an April Fools’ joke.

Four months later and the new Shapes flavour is real, and has been spotted on supermarket shelves across the country.
Australia’s favourite food bloggers are already flooding social media with their verdict on the adventurous new flavour.

Russ Eats confirmed Arnott’s new offering was a combination of the barbecue and pizza flavours on one biscuit, and not the two types of biscuit in one box.
The barbecue flavouring is made from tomato, garlic, onion, parsley and Worcestershire sauce, and pizza is made up of tomato, cheese, garlic, onion and mixed herbs.
“Both tomato-based, so these are all of those flavours combined,” Russ Eats explained, before trying them out.
His verdict: “Boring. They just taste like barbecue Shapes.”
He further explained that in is opinion, they were 90 per cent barbecue and 10 per cent pizza.
“It does have the texture of a pizza Shape obviously because that’s what they’ve baked it onto,” he said.
“And you’re left with a bit of that pecorino cheese I think it is from the pizza Shapes.

Nectorious Papi gave a similar verdict, confirming the “texture is more like a pizza Shape, but I feel like the flavour is stronger leaning towards barbecue flavour.”
“So they’re shaped similar to the pizza Shapes, but they have both barbecue and pizza seasoning in one,” he added.

“The barbecue flavour is so overpowering you hardly get any of the pizza... it’s still there but not as much.”
And Emily from Snack Reviews Aus called them “another April Fool’s joke that has turned into reality”.
She initially described the flavour as “interesting”.
“I feel like I am genuinely getting both. My brain is confused,” she said. “It’s so weird, but it’s good.”
Coles has the new Shapes Bizza marked down to two boxes for $6, or $4 for one box. Woolworths has marked them down by 25 per cent to $3 for one box.
Arnott’s has given its popular Shapes range a boost in recent months, releasing Shapes Light and Crispy in March.
The company described this new range as “delivering the flavour Aussies love, in a lighter, crispier oven-baked bite”.
The last time Arnott’s released a major, distinct brand collaboration for a “crazy” limited-edition Shapes flavour was in August 2024, when it released a Four’N Twenty meat pie version.
The Shapes range is one of Arnott’s biggest sellers, second only to Tim Tam Original.

Arnott’s most recent biscuit ranking, released in 2025, lists Tim Tam Original as its biggest seller, followed by its Shapes range, with chicken crimpy, barbecue, and pizza all landing in the top five.
Arnott’s has a lot of fun with its flavour collaborations, having previously released several Tim Tam and Shapes food blends which have included Tim Tam Inspired by Jatz in 2025, and Tim Tam Iced Vovo in 2026.

Arnott’s Shapes Bizza is part of a growing trend of major brands releasing fun and interesting flavour collaborations for Australian shoppers to try.
Previous famous collaborations have included Twisties Chickcheese, a blend of Chicken and Cheese Twisties in one bag which appeared for a limited time in 2024, before Twisties went one step further with more zany flavour collaborations including Twisties Fairy Floss, and Twisties Tangy Pickle.

Smith’s has been responsible for even more zany flavours, including the Smith’s Lamington Chips product released in 2019 head of Australia Day.
Cadbury released fun flavour collaborations including Cadbury Dairy Milk x Vegemite for a brief time in 2015.

Dr Amanda Spry, a senior marketing lecturer at RMIT University, previously told nine.com.au that “legacy” brands such as Arnott’s frequently released novelty flavours as a way of reigniting discussion of established brands that have been on the market for decades.
“Consumers are drawn to trendy flavours, even the ‘weird’ ones, for their nostalgic appeal and the novelty offered by familiar brands,” Spry said.
“These are brands that have been around for decades.
“We might all know and like them, but we’re probably not talking about them or sharing them on our social media.
“So for these brands, they’re trying to balance between familiarity and nostalgia, but also some novelty and freshness.”

These strange food flavour collaborations also create “shareable moments” on social media as people share their thoughts on these crazy combos.
“Importantly, it might get people coming back to the brand – it gets them trying it and importantly, it might get them talking about it and having a highly shareable consumption moment on social media.”
