Bumps out: Anne Hathaway embraces a new era of maternity fashion
Updated . First published at
Anne Hathaway has kicked off her fourth movie press tour of 2026 – and this time, her growing bump is having a moment in the spotlight.
For the world premiere of The End of Oak Street, the Oscar winner, who is pregnant with her third child, teamed low-slung jeans with a pale blue Prabal Gurung halter top that skimmed her bellybutton before cascading to the floor behind her. She tied the look together with a red lip and red heels, matching her top’s lining.

Naturally, the look created plenty of buzz – but as is so often the way with social media, things took a turn with some people suggesting her bump was fake.
Hathaway, 43, addressed the speculation on Instagram, revealing those accusations had been thrown at the wrong target: “Fake hair, real bump.”
The actress announced her pregnancy on June 19 with an Instagram post in which she cradled her growing stomach.

“Baby, I’m yours,” the mum of two – sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, six – captioned the post, set to the Barbara Lewis song of the same name.
The happy news came after she had completed the press tours for her films The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Mother Mary earlier in the year – and days before she began red carpet appearances for The Odyssey in early July.
While Hathaway wore plenty of beautiful outfits to promote the Christopher Nolan blockbuster, many of which emphasised her bump, this is the first time she’s bared it on the red carpet. Dare we say: sun’s out, bump’s out!

We’ve seen similar bump-baring looks at red-carpet events from stars including Rihanna, Sienna Miller, Adriana Lima, Jessie J and Ellie Goulding, to name just a few.
But this isn’t just a Hollywood thing; non-celebrity mums are also increasingly getting on board with the style in their day-to-day lives.

A recent New York Times article noted the shift away from pregnant stomachs being hidden under “boxy maternity clothes”, with expectant mums instead putting them on show “at the park, on the beach and in the street”.
Laura McAndrews, an associate professor in the School of Fashion at Kent State University, told the publication the change is partly generational, thanks to body-positive messaging.
“[Young people are] embracing all stages of their body, especially women,” she said.
“We’re not like back in the 1990s, and even earlier, where women just completely covered their bodies with these big tents.”
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the rest of The End of Oak Street’s press tour to see if Hathaway’s bump makes another stylish open-air appearance.
For now, let’s take a look at all the glorious red carpet outfits she’s worn since announcing her pregnancy:
