Victoria's top baby names have been revealed - and one is still at the top after more than a decade

When it comes to baby names Aussie parents know what they like, and they're sticking with the classics but embracing a bit of the new as well. 

The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria have revealed the top baby names in the state for 2024 and there's one boy name parents just cannot get enough of.  

For the 11th year in a row, Oliver has held onto the top spot for boys, cementing his place at Number 1 for over a decade.

Coming in at second place was Noah, then Henry, Leo and rounding out the top 5 was Theodore.

It's interesting to see how parents feel about names state by state, because in New South Wales Oliver fell down to second place in the list for the first time in 10 years.

But girls the list has seen a bit of a shuffle at the top.

While Amelia nabbed the number 1 spot in 2023, it moved down to third spot in 2024, making way for a new top name, Isla.

For the first time in Victoria, the name Isla has climbed to number 1, followed by Charlotte – which held onto second place – then Amelia.

Rounding out the top 5 are Mia in fourth, and Hazel in fifth place on the list.

The Victorian trends are a strong reflection of the names that topped the country in 2024.

Both Oliver and Isla were the top boy and girls names across Australia according to the report released by McCrindle.

The trend of nickname-names is taking off too, with more parents adding a modern twist on names for their boys.

Most popular baby name in one state toppled after a decade

Charlie, Number 7 and Archie, Number 9, are in the Top 10 for boys, showing that more mums and dads are looking towards more casual tweaks on classic names.

It gives a fresh vibe on classics like Charles, but also shows parents are looking towards shorter names too.
