The surprising baby names at risk of going extinct as they slip out of popularity
When it comes to baby names, parents often look to trends for inspiration.
But there's another side of trends – the names that are slipping off the charts so fast they're actually at risk of going extinct altogether.
BabyCenter has revealed which names are plummeting in popularity, and some of them may come as quite a surprise.
For boys' names, there's been a sharp decline in parents going with "-aden" names, while royal names are slipping down the ranks.
And while names inspired by grandparents, or the popular new 'my best friend's dad's name' for boys are gaining popularity, names that were huge in the '80s and '90s are on the way out.

10. Danny
From 2023 to 2024, the name Danny dropped down 176 places in the charts.
It's surprising, because 'nickname names' are still featured in a lot of top charts, it's just Danny slipping off the list.
9. Matthias
Matthias is a strong classic name, but it's falling out of favour with parents.
It's dropped 179 places in the ranks, which also makes it a nice option for people who don't want something super popular.
8. Camilo
Between 2023 and 2024, the name Camilo went down 185 places.
The name, which is of Spanish origin and means "young ceremonial attendant", has crept into the Top 1000 names in the US but still widely unused.
7. Idris
While some names get a little boost from a bit of star power and celebrities with the name, it doesn't always happen.
The name Idris went down 187 places, becoming one of the names falling off the charts.
6. Kareem
Dropping down 193 places between 2023 and 2024 was the boys' name Kareem.
The name is of Arabic origin meaning "noble, generous".
5. Taylor
A surprising name creeping out of popularity is Taylor.
It was a Top 100 boy name from 1988 to 1997, and every millennial knows how popular it once was.
But in recent years it's been on the decline and has now fallen 199 places in the ranks.
4. Emery
This is a surprising one, especially when 'E' names for boys are tipped to be a big trend in 2025.
Over 2023 to 2024, the name Emery dropped 241 places.
For parents who like the vibe but not sold on Emery, Emrys could be the option for you.
3. Cannon
The name Cannon is on the way out with parents-to-be.
It fits the unique vibe anyway, but it's dropped 268 places between 2023 and 2024.
