Top baby names in NSW 2024 revealed as most popular name is toppled after a decade
The votes are in and the most popular baby names in NSW in 2024 have been revealed, with some surprising rises and disappointing drops.
Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government Jihad Dib agrees, saying, "Every year, it's exciting to see the choices parents have made to name their child. The rankings share a snapshot of what families in NSW are gravitating towards when they name their babies, from enduring favourites such as Noah and Charlotte to emerging popular names like Hazel and Elijah."
"Welcoming a baby into the world is such an exciting time, and we congratulate all families that celebrated this special moment in 2024."

10. Elijah
Elijah has entered the boys' top 10 with 285 registrations in 2024, jumping from 16th the year before.
10. Sophia
Sophia crept into the top 10 of baby girl names in NSW with 258 new counts.
9. Lucas
Lucas made his debut into the top 10 list in 2023, maintaining his ranking at 299 registrations in 2024.
The name Lucas is of Latin and Greek origins, meaning "bringer of light".
9. Evelyn
Evelyn made her debut in the top 10 list in NSW in 2023 for the first time in over a decade.
She dropped a spot in the rankings, with 259 new ones in 2024.
According to BabyCenter.com, Evelyn is a portmanteau of Eve (meaning "alive" in Hebrew) and Lynn (meaning "lake" in Welsh).
8. Charlie
The name Charlie, which is derived from Charles, just made it onto the list in 10th place in 2023.
He rose two places, with 309 new baby Charlies in the state.
8. Hazel
Hazel made her debut in the coveted list in eighth place with 262 registrations.
7. Hudson
Hudson debuted at number 7 on the 2023 list and has maintained his spot with 321 new registrations.
The name Hudson is of Medieval origin and technically means son of Hugh.
7. Harper
Harper, has made her first appearance in the top 10 since 2018, with 268 new little ones with the name.
6. Leo
The name Leo has had perhaps one of the biggest spikes in popularity of all the names.
Coming in third in 2023 and in 2022, Leo has risen from its debut on the list in ninth place in 2018.
However he has dropped down to sixth places with 336 new names in 2024.
