'Did you end up regretting it?' Parent asks for advice about choosing a baby name in the Top 10
There's a lot of things to think about before settling on your baby's name.
Is it going to grow with them? Will it be hard for them to spell? Will it be hard for people to pronounce? Is it going to be a name they'll get teased for?
But another issue a lot of parents are facing now is, do you name your kid a really popular name?
When it comes to the Top 10 boys and girls names across not only Australia, but the rest of the world, plenty have cemented their spots as longstanding favourites.

One person has asked Reddit for advice, wanting to know if parents who went with a really popular name regret it now.
"For those who named their daughter a Top 10 name, did you end up regretting it? Did the popularity of the name / having multiple in each class at school bother you?" they posted.
"For context, I'm considering Sophia nickname Sophie for our daughter. Thanks!"
Sophia is number 4 in the Top 10 in the US, and in Australia sitting at number 18 in the Top 100, so it's up there.
There were a lot of people who went with popular names for their kids, for a variety of reasons, who chimed in to let the poster know there have been no problems with it.
"I've got a son with a top 10 name and it's never been an issue - he's the only one in his class / year and everyone can pronounce / spell it. He likes it when he meets other boys with his name," replied one parent.

Another person replied that they gave all of their kids names in the top 10, although the youngest was unintentional and they love their names.
"The older ones like that their names are easy to spell and pronounce. Interestingly, there's only one other girl in my youngest's elementary school with the same name," they added.
"There's also an additional benefit of online privacy. If someone was to search online for my kids, they'd get hundreds of results of people with the same names within their age range."
Others commented that it's always going to be up to chance if your kid ends up with others of the same name in their class.

"I think it's always a roll of the dice with getting multiple kids in the class with the name. For example, my four year old doesn't have any Sophie's or Sophia's in her class but she does have two Embers, which is far less popular," commented one person.
Some people who grew up with popular names from the '90s shared their own experience, and were unbothered by coming across someone with the same name.

But there was one person who wished they never went with a Top 10 name, and they shared some advice for the parent struggling with their decision.
"I did and regret it. I wasn't aware of it at the time of naming but once I found out it did start to bother me. If you already think it might bother you I would avoid. We know lots of Sophie, Sophias," she added.
Ultimately it seems like if you really love the name and don't mind meeting other kids with the same one, go for it.
