'The same vibes': Millennial mum decodes the most popular baby girl names of the '90s and their modern versions

There are always baby name trends taking off or names that just never go out of style – we're looking at you, Olivia.

But one mum has got a very interesting take on modern baby names, and if you're a child of the '80s or '90s a lot of this will make sense to you. 

Carly, a TikToker and baby name enthusiast, knows baby names have a certain 'vibe' and has one of the absolute best theories about '90s names that we've heard.

Turns out the energy of a lot of baby names today syncs up with some of the most popular baby girl names of the '90s. 

"This is what my '90s-baby/Millennial mum brain thinks of when I hear these top baby girl names," she explained in the video. "These are the same vibes to me..."

Here are some of Carly's choices: 

Mia = Amy: So true, both three letters and deliver the same vibes. Also opt for a creative spelling of Ami and you've got the same letters. 

Amelia = Amanda: It's got a similar sound, starts with 'A' and delivers on the 'classic but nice' note that a lot of people are looking for in a girl name. 

Evelyn = Elizabeth: They're both classics, both have a lot of feminine energy and really nail the chic vibe.

Penelope = Samantha: A staple in the top 100 baby names around the world for years, Penelope is fun but classic, the same feeling Samantha gives. 

Sutton = Brittany: "Sutton is not as popular as Brittany, but they're just like the same vibe. Same vibes," Carly said. 

Addie = Maddie/Maggie: "Any form of Addie, Adalyn, Addison, is Maddie, or Maggie," she said.

Nora = Nicole: OK, so they both start with 'n' but they've got the same two-syllable flow 

Sophia = Stephanie: A very popular one in the '90s and with Sophia climbing up the ranks, it's easy to see why she picked these two. 

Carly had more comparisons, and even a quip about her own name, which you can watch in the video at the top of this article.

Last but not least she had one name that hits the same today as it did in the '90s. 

"Oh, and Olivia is Olivia," Carly finished. 

The video, which has been watched over 650,000 times, has received plenty of comments from people who think she nailed it. 

"Penelope is Samantha is so real," replied one woman.

"It's crazy how much this makes sense," commented another woman.

One mum commented, "I'm Amanda. My daughter's Amelia."
