Matildas star Emily Van Egmond and wife Kat Thompson share baby news

A big congratulations to Emily van Egmond and her wife Kat Thompson who have shared some very happy news. 

The Matilda's star and her digital content creator partner are having a baby! The couple took to Instagram in a joint post to announce the big news along with some cute snaps. 

The pair stood in a park for the snaps where Emily held Kat's belly while she held up ultrasound photos.

"Baby Van Egmond coming October," they captioned the post.

They shared a second photo, a black-and-white close-up of the scan photos and Emily's hand on Kat's growing stomach. 

Emily's teammates were quick to congratulate the pair on the huge news.

"Congrats to you both!!" Mary Fowler commented. 

Matilda's captain, Sam Kerr – who is due to welcome her own baby with partner Kristie Mewis in the coming months – commented, "Let's goooooo". 

"This is just the best news. Congratulations to you both," commented another follower.

The baby news tops off a big few months for a couple, who tied the knot in December. 

Emily and Kat married in a stunning ceremony at Krinklewood Estate in the New South Wales Hunter Valley. 

The couple were surrounded by friends and family for the special day, and opened up to Vogue Brides about some of the details.

American-born Kat spoke about her stunning bridal look, which was a gown by Kyha studios and Jimmy Choo heels, but her look was finished with a very special gift from her new mother-in-law. 

"The most notable accessory for me was a gift the night before our wedding from Emily's mum, she had a beautiful handbag made for me from her old wedding gown," she said.

Meanwhile, Emily opted for a black suit and bow tie, wearing her hair tied back in a chic low bun. 

The couple met online in 2022 and have been relatively private when it comes to their relationship. 

Emily first connected with the San Diego-based digital content creator and photographer while living in the same Californian city, but they made things official in 2023. 

The soccer star proposed in June 2023, at the time Kat shared snaps from the proposal with a simple caption of, "Forever yes."
