Matildas player Emily van Egmond and partner Kat Thompson tie the knot surrounded by teammates

The Matildas have gathered to celebrate the nuptials of one of their own – Emily van Egmond and her American partner, Kat Thompson.

Team members, including captain Sam Kerr, her fiancée Kristie Mewis, Mackenzie Arnold, Steph Catley, Clare Polkinghorne, Caitlin Foord, and Lydia Williams were in attendance, among others.

Taking place at a winery in the Krinklewood Estate in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, the teammates enjoyed breakfast at Cafe Enzo, with Kerr taking a snap with van Egmond before her her big day.

Kerr also uploaded some snaps from the festivities, including a picture with Mewis, who wore a white and blue floral dress with sunnies. Kerr wore a white dress shirt with a black jacket covering half of it as she held a glass up to the camera.

Kerr also shared a snap of the newlyweds, with van Egmond wearing a sharp black suit and Thompson wearing a stunning sleeveless flowing dress with accompanying neck scarf, giving off an old Hollywood vibe.

The couple did a quick dress change for the reception, with Catley sharing a snippet of the newlyweds slow dancing on her Instagram story.

van Egmond, 31, wore a white suit with sharp black lapels, while Thompson changed into a white mini-dress, pairing it with strappy heels.

The couple have been very private about their relationship, which began when they met online in 2022.

van Egmond connected with the San Diego-based digital content creator and photographer while living in the same Californian city.

They got engaged in May 2023, with the Matildas player asking Thompson to marry her while the couple stood on a cliff overlooking the ocean in California.

The 31-year-old even designed the ring herself, with Thompson telling New Idea that she had "no clue" what was happening at the time. "I was crying," she added.

The Matildas star also revealed their plans for the wedding, telling the outlet, "We are aiming for the summer...It's not going to be a massive crazy wedding."
