Melania Trump's surprise style choice for husband Donald Trump's second inauguration
Melania Trump has made a surprise style choice for her husband's second inauguration.
The First Lady returned to Washington on Monday (Tuesday morning in Australia) with her husband Donald Trump and son Barron for the presidential inauguration ceremony.
To mark her return to the White House for the next four years, Melania opted for a navy wool coat and pencil skirt hand-sewn by American designer Adam Lippes.

But one accessory in particular made her stand out – her wide-brimmed hat.

Melania arrived in a matching dark hat by luxury New York City milliner, Eric Javits – meaning her outfit was entirely made by American designers.
The structured hat featured a statement white trim around the middle.
The size of the brim also appeared to make it difficult for the president to kiss his wife.
Trump leaned in for a peck on the cheek but was forced into an air kiss instead as he couldn't reach her face.

Melania's latest inauguration look marks a different style approach from her outfit in 2017 where she dressed in a powder blue dress with a matching bolero jacket by American designer Ralph Lauren.

Hats have not been a common accessory choice worn by the First Ladies at previous inauguration ceremonies.
Jacqueline Kennedy famously wore a pillbox hat, which became a signature of her style, by milliner Halston in 1961 ahead of her husband John F. Kennedy's inauguration ceremonies.

Hillary Clinton was the last First Lady to wear a head for an inauguration in 1993 for her husband Bill Clinton's first term as US President.
Hillary's blue hat for the occasion, which she paired with a matching checkered suit jacket and skirt, was by a designer from Southport, Darcy Creech.

She wore a black Dior coat, knee-high Christian Louboutin boots and leather gloves.
