'If you're feeling kind and generous': Bride's audacious request to guests after wedding

An audacious bride has made a bold request of wedding guests following her nuptials, sending the message long after her reception was done and dusted.

"Our wedding may be over, but the celebration continues," she began the message, which has now been shared on Reddit.

"Our wedding last week was an unforgettable day, and we're still soaking in all the love and joy! Although it has passed, we'd still love for you to celebrate with us in spirit."

"We had our hearts set on a honeymoon, but after spending $3,000 on empty seats (yes, we're side-eying those no-shows), we're hitting pause on the getaway dreams... for now.

"If you're feeling kind and generous, we've shared a few links below to help support our honeymoon fund!

"To everyone who sent gifts from our registry or gave us cash on our wedding day — THANK YOU! We truly appreciate every single one of you.

"Your love and support mean the world to us, and we feel incredibly blessed to have you in our lives."

The identity of the bride has been removed by the Redditer who was sent the message from a shocked "peripheral friend".

One commenter called the request "tacky". Another said it was "horribly rude".

"I wanna know why there were so many no shows, it makes me wonder if the demand list became longer after RSVP's were received," another said.

"Yes, I wanna know too, how many no-shows? Even at $100/plate, it would take 30 no-shows to rack up $3k. I'm wondering how many and how expensive were these plates lol," one Redditor added.

"Asking for gifts after the wedding is tacky regardless. Just call them out, and if they have no good reason for no shows, then cut contact," another comment reads.

"And $3k would have been the cost of the wedding whether there was no show or not, so not sure how it has resulted in a pause on honeymoon. Lol

9honey asked Darcy Allen, General Manager of Easy Weddings, to weigh in on the bride's request. She labelled the situation a "tricky one".

"At the end of the day your wedding should be an opportunity to celebrate with your nearest and dearest without an expectation on how much or what you will ultimately receive in exchange for a seat at the Wedding," Allen said.

"If a honeymoon registry is your no.1 priority and hope to obtain enough for your dream holiday I would recommend to couples to make this clear on your invitations to your guests, guests love a clear direction on what to get you as a gift so they don't have to worry!

"So to ensure your honeymoon registry is prioritised, I would suggest not having a gift registry in addition to this."

Her advice to wedding guests on the receiving end of this message is to "ignore it".

"It could be a post-wedding-blues-type reaction and not worth a possible friendship ending discussion in my opinion."

Allen said online wedding registries are the most common ways couples are organising gifts ahead of their nuptials.

"Occasionally we are still seeing the use of gift registries in large department stores such as Myer or David Jones mainly consisting of high end homewares/decor items requested."

Guests have become more generous in their gift-giving at weddings, according to Easy Wedding's 10th Annual Industry report.

Wedding guests are spending approximately $50 per gift in 2025 than in the previous year on close friends and family, and $13 more for couples outside their immediate circle.

Allen also said "couples more than ever are requesting cash gifts in lieu of presents".

"While most modern couples already live together before they wed (90 percent), negating the need for gifts to set up a home, in practical terms, any wishing well donations received can instead be used to offset the cost of the wedding."
