Bartenders are sharing a discreet drink order women can request when they feel unsafe due to another guest in a bar.

It's called an Angel Shot, and is being shared by bartenders and content creators on TikTok who are keen to help women in need of assistance during their shifts and to educate bartenders so they know exactly what is being asked when the order is placed.

"#pov you ask for angel shot but the bartender doesn't know what that is #foryoupage," one woman recently shared on her account @elongatedmusk.

In the video we see her ask her boyfriend, who is playing the part of the bartender, for an angel shot. He looks confused so she hands him her phone which explains what it means.

He then grabs a baseball bat from under the bar and proceeds to walk menacingly out towards the crowd.

The Angel Shot derived from the Ask for Angela campaign that began in the UK in 2016, with women who were feeling unsafe urged to ask for "Angela" in establishments whenever they needed assistance.

This evolved into the Angel Shot.

The program was started by Hayley Crawford, the Substance Misuse and Sexual violence (prevention) strategic Coordinator for Lincolnshire County Council.

Benjamin Smith, a creator and bartender from California in the US, is credited with spreading the viral trend in a video that has been viewed more than 11.3 million times.
