Amanda Knox makes surprising career move 16-years after false murder conviction

Amanda Knox is making a surprising career change 16 years after she was falsely convicted of murdering her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in Italy.

Knox is expanding her career in the creative arts just months after she worked as an executive producer on the 2020 limited series about her life and wrongful conviction called The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.

Her latest career move has seen her poking fun at herself and others as she has a crack at stand-up comedy.

"I think that finding the ability to laugh at the bad things that have happened to you and find the absurdity in the human condition [is very important]," she told The Sun.

"I really love how comedy allows me to feel connected to other people," she added. "It's a way of turning the temperature down a little bit and making fun of myself."

Her most recent gig was at the Ice House in California on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT). In her act, she cracks jokes about going to jail, and compares it to motherhood.

She also opened up for Nikki Glaser's US comedy tour last year.

The 38-year-old was convicted of the 2007 murder of her study abroad roommate, Meredith Kercher, spending four years in an Italian jail before she was acquitted of all charges.

Following a conviction for murder in 2009, Knox was sentenced to 26 years in an Italian prison.

She served approximately four years before being acquitted on appeal and released from prison in 2011.

After her acquittal, Knox returned to the US. However, in 2014, an Italian court again convicted both Knox and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, of the murder.

Both convictions were ultimately overturned by Italy's Supreme Court in 2015.

Another man, Rudy Guede, was also found guilty of Kercher's murder in 2009.

He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and it was later reduced to 16 years.

His conviction was the only one that was held up through every level of the Italian court system.

He was released in 2021 after serving 13 years of his sentence. He denies killing Kercher.
