Why should keep your distance from a bullfrog

This is why you should leave frogs alone.

They're slippery, slimy little suckers who can hop unpredictably, putting you at a direct risk of the gross feeling of skin on skin contact.

So when Jan-Hendrik Hanekom came across this giant bullfrog in a Namibian wildlife reserve, he should have kept his distance.

But he didn't.

And then this happened.

"When the bullfrog jumped at me I was so shocked that I swore," Hanekom says.

"I was completely taken aback, especially because I know they can have a nasty bite."

Yeah mate, these guys aren't your cute little green tree frogs croaking away in your downpipes.

They're "highly aggressive" whoppers, like the rhino of the amphibian world.

These are snot-coloured blobs of anger with sharp canine teeth and one heck of a temper.

But forget the fact they can draw blood, and think about the sickening feeling of that slimy skin brushing against your leg.

Bite wounds heal, but the skin-crawling memory of an encounter like that never fades.

And that is a tragedy that could have been avoided.
