3 things to watch this weekend: Mr Bean trades self-absorbed contrivances to the bizarre story of a man at war with a bee

Man vs Bee

What: Rowan Atkinson is an English actor and comedian known for this roles in Blackadder, Johnny English and the first Scooby Doo! movie. But it's his role as the titular Mr. Bean that he is most recognised for.

Atkinson now returns for a new Netflix series, titled Man vs Bee, where he plays Trevor, a house sitter who finds himself in a battle with a bee. Here he tries to avoid irreparable damage being done.

The series also stars Claudie Blakley as Trevor's ex-wife, Tom Basden, Julian Rhind-Tutt and Crazy Rich Asian's star Jing Lusi as Nina, the owner of the luxurious mansion that Trevor is house-sitting.

How much wacky hi-jinks can ensue as Trevor tries to take care of this house while he is pursued by a mischievous bee? You'll have to be[e] watching to find out.

Chloe

What: Chloe follows Becky Green (Erin Doherty), who is obsessed with stalking her childhood friend Chloe Fairbourne's (Poppy Gilbert) perfectly curated social media presence.

Chloe's charmed life, adoring husband, and circle of high-achieving friends are always just a click away, and Becky can't resist peering into a world that contrasts so starkly with her own, as she cares for her mother, who has early onset dementia.

When Chloe suddenly dies, Becky assumes a new identity and infiltrates the enviable lives of Chloe's closest friends to find out what happened to her.

Through her alter-ego Sasha, Becky becomes a powerful, transgressive heroine; a popular, well-connected "someone" with a life–and loves–that are far more exciting and addictive than the "no-one" she is as Becky.

However, the pretense soon obscures and conflates reality, and she discovers Chloe's real life had not been nearly as perfect as it was portrayed online. As Becky gets deeper into her con, and Chloe's inner circle, she risks losing herself completely in the game she is playing.

Chloe is shocking and powerful series with a lot to say about our social-media-focused world.

The Twelve

What: The Twelve follows the story of Kate (Kate Mulvany), who is on trial for the alleged murder of her niece, and how the twelve jurors bring their personal lives and prejudices to the courtroom.

This landmark Aussie drama features a number of high-profile actors including Sam Neill, Marta Dusseldorp, Brendan Cowell, Brooke Satchwell, Hazem Shammas, Pallavi Sharda and Matt Nable.

The series shows the 12 ordinary people who are selected for jury duty in a murder trial. The series is as traumatising as it is controversial, following a woman who stands accused of killing a child.

Look for tight scripting, powerful performances and A-grade quality in this Australian drama series.

Bonus: The Loot

What: Loot is a new Apple original comedy series from creators Alan Yang (Little America, Master of None) and Matt Hubbard (30 Rock, Forever) starring Maya Rudolph, Michaela Jaé (Mj) Rodriguez and Joel Kim Booster.

The new comedy follows Molly (Rudolph), a woman whose seemingly perfect life is upended after her husband leaves her with nothing but 87 billion dollars.

Showing that money can buy you everything except a reason to get out of bed in the morning, Loot is a fun and ridiculous watch. If you're looking for an easy, fun and hilarious watch, this is the show for you this weekend.
