His death was only announced recently in a statement from his close friend, Gavin Wood, who revealed he received a message from Dixon’s support worker informing him of his death.
“I have just received this sad message from his disability support worker, Jason Davis,” Wood wrote in a Facebook post.
“Ewan was involved in a very bad horse accident. He fought so hard to get fit and well but the injuries were too severe.”
He then shared the message he received from Davis, which read: “I wanted to reach out to you to see if you are aware that Ewan Dixon passed away.”
“I am a disability support worker and had been working with Ewan for the past three months or so. I’m not sure his passing has been communicated to the people it should have, hence why I am reaching out, he spoke of you often.”
The message went on, with Davis saying while he didn’t know Dixon for long, they “hit it off” and had spent “hours listening to music and talking.”
“I’m not sure if the appropriate people are aware of his passing and have had the opportunity to celebrate his life and friendship.”
Friends and colleagues of Dixon took to the comments to remember the radio host.
“Remembering the laughs we had during those years of the GWRS on Gold 104.3, and the enthusiasm and passion he had for radio. Thanks for sharing this news Gavin,” one user wrote.

“Oh no I had no idea he had been in a tragic accident. He loved a chat! Lovely, caring person. Rest In Peace Ewan,” another wrote.
“OMG. Ewan was our legendary twirler of knobs and switches and made me sound 1/2 decent during our shows together. Ewan was also a super nice guy. Condolences to his family and friends,” a former colleague wrote.
Dixon career spanned decades across radio stations in Melbourne and Brisbane.
He worked at Melbourne’s Gold 104.3, Triple M Melbourne and Brisbane’s B105 Melbourne.
