Aussie kelpie sells for more than $20,000

This might be the most expensive working dog ever.

His name is Glencairn Seven, he’s two-years-old and he just sold for $22,200.

Yep, you read that right.

The highly-trained sheepdog was up for auction at the Australian Kelpie Muster held at Casterton, Victoria at the weekend.

He was trained by Christian Peacock, who described the kelpie as a “strong dog” in the auction listing.

“He has a big heart and goes all day,” he said.

As you can see from video of Seven posted to Peacock’s YouTube channel, he really knows what he’s doing.

Seven showed off his skills for bidders at the annual muster, before a producer from Hamilton bought the little fella.

Bidding started at $5000, but quickly jumped to the record-breaking figure.

It’s believed the price could be the largest sum paid for a working kelpie in the world.

In 2016, a UK sheep dog was sold for a little more than $26,000, but he was a border collie.

Another kelpie, a female aged nearly three-years-old, sold for $16,500 at the same auction.

The kelpie, Lessi Sally, was trained by Ian O’Connell in Hamilton and is now on her way to Naracoorte in South Australia.

According to the Glenelg Shire Council, the auction netted a record $261,000 from the sale of 64 dogs.
