Melbourne woman's shock op shop discovery sparks outrage: 'Should be in a museum'

Aussies have flocked to a Melbourne op shop after an avid local thrift shopper stumbled across "a piece of Australian TV history".

Rebecca Brewin was in This N That Community Op Shop Forest Hill when she unearthed a mountain of props and treasures from the iconic Aussie soap opera Neighbours.

"I've seen some stuff in my time at the op shop but I have never seen anything like this," Rebecca said in a video posted to Instagram.

After taking her discovery online, fellow Neighbours fans were outraged with some saying the items "should be in a museum".

In amongst the pile of Neighbours memorabilia was Stuart Parker's license, the Bishop family's Medicare card, a Lassiters Spa key ring, a receipt for The Waterhole Lassiters pub and scripts from the set.

The list went on with Toadie Rebecchi's lunch bag spotted, Piper Willis' license and various homewares from the characters' houses and local pub.

Perhaps Bec's best find was Dr Karl Kennedy's briefcase "quite battered and with plenty of files from Erinsborough hospital".

Shop owner Michelle invited Rebecca into the back of the store where found "everything you could possibly imagine from the fictious town of Erinsborough."

Although Neighbours was filmed in the area, the Forest Hill Shop was stunned when it received three van loads of donations some weeks ago by someone who had worked on the long running drama.

Online, Neighbours fans were flabbergasted that such iconic items had just been "dumped" at the store.

"Honestly it should be donated to the museum," one person wrote, the comment amassing hundreds of likes in agreeance.

Another said: "They could have auctioned it off for charity on eBay, I'm sure plenty of fans would have loved a chance at a bit of Aussie TV history."

Even former Neighbours actor Dan Macpherson chimed in, making a reference to his character Joel Samuels: "Can you keep an eye out for Joel's crutches."

With many fans, both Aussie and international, keen to get their hands on a piece of history This N That Community Op Shop was inundated with calls and customers in store.

Op shopper Rebecca returned online with an update days later: "In a testament to the show, it turns out Neighbours fans are a loyal and committed bunch!

"Thanks so much for all the interest! This n That Community Store in Brentford Square has be inundated. They need time to price everything and organise a dedicated sale (likely online, to be confirmed)."

Neighbours ran for more than 40 years and followed follows the lives, loves, and friendships of the various residents, both old and young, of the fictional area of Erinsborough on Ramsay St.

Premiering in 1985, the show was due to be cancelled in 2022 before streaming service Amazon threw a lifeline, but pulled the plug on production this year.
