Chris Hemsworth faces 'devastating' training injury before revealing insane Thor routine on Limitless

When you're cast as an Asgardian god, it becomes a "full-time job" to build the body of a superhero – just ask Chris Hemsworth.

While bulking up for Thor: Love and Thunder, the Aussie actor had to gain more than 40 pounds (about 18kg) of muscle alone.

But what happens when injury strikes?

As you can see in the video above, it's "devastating" for the Aussie star.

In his thrilling series Limitless, Chris, 40, faces an injury while training, leading him to ask: is he truly building a body that will help him stay stronger, healthier, and mobile in the long haul?

In the series, Chris explained that 'athlete Chris' growing up, was very different to the 'actor Chris' he is now.

"Through high school, I would surf, I did athletics, I played football. I had a very all round sort of fitness," he began.

"Once I got cast as Thor, I had a very specific job, which was look like a cartoon character, to look like a comic book hero."

Longevity expert Dr. Peter Attia explained that while Chris may look strong, his stamina and endurance is where he lacked.

"There are more than 600 muscles in the human body, and for longevity, you've got to make good use of as many as possible," Dr. Attia said.

So, Chris began training for a grueling 100-ft rope climb. As you can see in the video below, that's when injury struck:

"It's pretty excruciating," gritted Chris. "I've had injuries over the years and I found it really difficult.

"I just love to keep moving, I have a lot of energy and want to stay busy, and so when I'm told and forced to sit and do nothing, I find it very challenging."

"I'm devastated for Chris," said extreme sports expert Ross Edgley, who was helping train the star.

"True strength isn't only about how much I can lift in the gym, it's also about staying mobile and injury free," Chris realised.

And so with a fresh ankle boot, the training began – and soon enough, so did filming for Thor.

On top of 10 meals a day, Chris revealed his very specific routine he went through to prepare for his "shirt-off" scenes.

The actor was tipping the scales at more than 230 pounds (about 104kg).
