Tourist is unbelievably calm after lighting strikes just metres from his Queensland motel

Queensland; a place with pristine beaches, beautiful scenery… and apparently a lightning-chucking overlord who likes to scare the pants off tourists.

Check out this video taken from a balcony in a Gladstone hotel.

Newcastle man Tim Allfrey started filming to capture the marvellous spectacle that is a Queensland storm and had a pretty good view of the action.

"I decided to film some lightning strikes from the distance... nature had other plans," he said.

Perhaps his view of the action was a little too good, because holy snapping dog crap, the storm got close.

It was close enough to nearly singe off his damn eyebrows.

But somehow, he managed to hold the camera steady and didn't drop a single swear.

Allfrey posted the video to Facebook, where it clocked up more than 350,000 views and was shared more than 4000 times.

On Facebook, he said it was an "interesting evening".

"Was like a mini cyclone," he said.

"I almost lost the curtains out the balcony door."

People were losing it in the comments section, with a lot of lightning bolt and poo emoticons being thrown about.

"Better change your undies and go put lotto on. LUCKY YOU," Bonnie Gray said on Facebook.

"I would have squealed like a school girl," Shane Kendall said.
