Godfather of Harlem premiere date announced

Crime drama fans' next obsession is almost here with Godfather of Harlem set to land on Stan October 1.

The 10-part series stars Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker as infamous mob boss Bumpy Johnson.

Inspired by a true story, Godfather of Harlem follows Bumpy in the 1960s as he returns from prison to find his neighbourhood has been taken over by the Italian mob. Bumpy decides to battle the Genovese crime family to reclaim his control.

Along the way Bumpy also crosses paths with radical preacher Malcolm X, who is making his mark just as the mob war threatens to destroy the city.

The gangster drama also stars Law & Order: Criminal Intent's Vincent D'Onofrio, Australian Lucy Fry and Goodfellas actor Paul Sorvino.

Godfather of Harlem premieres 1 October and is available only on Stan.
