Actress Lana Condor’s terrifying real-life ‘attack’ filming shark thriller

Exclusive: “Five friends get trapped into a cave with a shark,” says actress Lana Condor as she pitched her heart-racing new shark film The Devil’s Mouth.

“Be prepared to scream,” the 29-year-old warned nine.com.au, when in reality, it was the young Hollywood cast who wasn’t at all prepared – for a terrifying encounter of her own.

 “I was attacked by a monkey, attacked!” blurted Condor when asked if filming in tropical Thailand, for 12-hour days, was as idyllic as it sounds.

“I saw a shark, one hundred per cent in the open water,” jumped in co-star Nico Hiraga. But that shark wasn’t on its own.

“When we were shooting the yacht scenes there were sharks swimming around us and Kathryn [Newton, pictured above] was filming in the water,” Condor began to explain.

“We saw the fins, but we didn’t tell her because she was the only one who had to get into the water at that point, so we were like, ‘I think it’s best we just don’t tell her’.

“So if you ask her, she’ll be like, ‘They didn’t tell me that there were sharks around me!’” she laughed.

“Oh my god, we encountered everything, we saw it all.”

The thrilling new shark horror follows five college graduates who are plunged, right into the deep end, of a survival nightmare.

Trapped in a remote cave, known as The Devil’s Mouth, the five friends soon discover they’re being hunted by a fast, silent and deadly predator.

“Every single part of filming was insane, it was 12 to 13 hours a day in or under the water for almost three months,” Condor revealed.

“We filmed in the real ocean and in real cave systems, also in fakes ones that the incredible team built in Thailand. Even those cave systems were 50 feet deep.”

But between five cast mates, there was only one life jacket, and if you watch the movie you’ll soon know why.

You’ll also learn why Gavin Casalegno, who stars as Greg in the movie, has one of the most “intense” scenes of all.

“We were all fighting for the life jacket because after swimming for 12 hours, you’re like, ‘Can you just give me the thing?’” he recalled (without any major spoilers, of course).

Just as Condor added: “It was so cool to experience, but truly, I don’t think I could ever do that much water again. It was so much water.”
