The idea is definitely something out of the ordinary and that's what drew Robinson to the project.

"It was so different and so weird and interesting and just all these different things and something that I hadn't seen or heard of before, so I was just like, 'Yeah lets go for it'," Robinson told 9Entertainment.

Craig Foster is a divorced dad with a deaf ex-wife, and he's got a brilliant business idea.

"His daughter looks up to him, they have a great relationship, he has a brother who's a criminal and he's a security guard at a bank, but then he loses his job and his car, and then his apartment, so he's down on his luck," Robinson explained.

"But he's also trying to live the American dream, so to speak."

That dream has changed over his life, but as that turns into different ideas, one thing stays the same, his drive to succeed. It was that aspect of the character that Robinson loved about the role.

"I loved it [playing Craig]. I love that he's so determined and he's relentless about doing things right," he said.

"I love that he's a caregiver, he loves his brother, even though they go through their things but you see how strong that brother bond is.

"And I loved playing the vulnerable parts – you know, I don't get a lot of those, so this was a nice way to come in and sort of grow."

The other highlight for Robinson was working with Australian comedian Claudia O'Doherty.

"Claudia is fantastic, her understanding of what she brings comedically is such a gift," he said.

The idea for the show came from the brilliant minds behind Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dan Goor and Luke Del Tredici, who pitched the idea to Robinson and his manager.

"My manager and I were meeting with them about doing a show for me and after a couple of meetings they came back with these three ideas," Robinson recalled.

"Two of which, I don't remember, but the third one was about going and hunting snakes in Florida, at that point it was just a news article and then they developed it and here we are."

While fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine might be expecting some similarities due to the big names coming on board for this series, Robinson said that's not the case at all.

"I don't see how, I suppose Dan and Luke coming from there and I was on there, but it's so different," Robinson explained.

"It's a chance to show that we can all do something different. But Brooklyn Nine-Nine was this light, hysterical, four-jokes-a-minute kind of comedy, and this is not that."

Robinson is hoping that some of Craig Foster's determined spirit will rub off on viewers too.

"I hope they get a little gas in the tank for going after their dreams or going after whatever they're going after – it could be to lose some weight or get an audition," he said.

"But I hope you get that never give up spirit and also get some good laughs."
