Romancing the Stone star Zack Norman dies aged 83: 'Most enigmatic person'

American actor and producer Zack Norman has died. He was 83.

Deadline confirmed the actor died of natural causes on April 28 as per his son-in-law Jeff Briller.

Norman was best known for starring alongside Danny DeVito in the 1984 film Romancing the Stone and guest starring in The Nanny and Baywatch.

Norman started off working in comedy in the '60s before making his television debut doing standup on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1969.

One of his most memorable roles came in 1984 when he played Danny DeVito's sidekick Ira in the action movie Romancing the Stone.

Norman was DeVito's on-screen cousin and who was notably obsessed with crocodiles.

A few years later he starred in the 1990 film Cadillac Man as Harry Munchack alongside Hollywood greats Robin Williams and Fran Drescher.

In the '90s, he also had roles in Babyfever, At Home with the Webbers, Mojave Moon and The A-Team.

In 1993 he landed a guest role on the American sitcom The Nanny as Uncle Jack, once again acting alongside Fran Drescher.

In the same year he appeared on the popular drama series Baywatch as Valdez.

Norman went on to continue acting in the '00s and 2010s in several films such as Hollywood Dreams, Irene in Time, Festival in Cannes and Chief Zabu in 2016.

In recent years he became an avid painter and art collector.

Norman was actually a painter himself since the '70s under the name Zack Zuker.

The actor's daughter Lori Zuker Briller shared a heartbreaking tribute for her late father.

"Wherever you drifted off to, I know everything just got livelier," she wrote on Facebook.

"You were the most enigmatic person wherever you went," the tribute continued.

"The best father, husband, grandfather and friend, you brought so many laughs and so much enrichment to all of our lives."

Fans also took to social media to remember the late actor.

"From Fran to Cadillac Man, and the stone romancing. May Zack Norman's memory be a blessing," one person wrote to X.
