Zach Braff says he nearly got into a fight with Anne Hathaway's father at a film premiere

Zach Braff has revealed he nearly got into a fight with Anne Hathaway's father over a misunderstanding at the 2012 premiere of Les Misérables.

Braff recounted the story in an episode of his podcast, Fake Doctors, Real Friends, with Scrubs co-star and real-life best friend Donald Faison — saying that when he went to approach and congratulate Hathaway at the event, her dad stood up to confront him.

"I know Anne Hathaway as an acquaintance. I'm walking towards her to say congratulations," Braff said. "Her father stands ups and gives me this look like: 'I'm going to kill this motherf---er. He's got the balls to crash my daughter's premiere? I'm going to strangle him!'"

The whole situation ended up being a mix-up, with Hathaway's father mistaking him for her ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri, whom Braff shares a striking resemblance with.

Hathaway and Follieri dated from 2004 until 2008. They called it quits before he was arrested and charged with 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four-and-a-half-years in prison.

"I got within 10 feet of [Hathaway's father] and his face just f---ing broke, sighed with a breath of relief realising it was me and not the ex-boyfriend," Braff said.

The podcast continued with Braff saying he gets mistaken for Follieri quite often. The actor recalled it once helped him meet one of his idols, Arsenio Hall.

"I never met Arsenio Hall. But I was geeking out because I love Arsenio Hall," he said. "He brought me over to the end of the counter where they delivered the coffees. And there, you can hear the music, is Eddie Murphy standing there."

Braff then recalled Murphy saying, "Anybody ever tell you you look like Anne Hathaway's boyfriend that went to jail? Yeah, 'cause I was watching the news and I was like, 'That looks like the dude from Scrubs!'"
