A-lister Tom Holland ‘humbled’ by brutal snub from World Cup hero Erling Haaland

The whole world has World Cup fever, and Tom Holland is no different.

In fact, The Odyssey star, 30, got so caught up in the fun he sent a DM to see if Norway star player and crowd favourite Erling Haaland wanted to hang out – only to be very humbled as Haaland had no idea who he was.

“Yes [I DM’d him], and I’ll tell you what. That is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors,” Holland confessed during an appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“You’re like, ‘I’ll text him. I’ll take him to dinner.’ Not even a response. Not an excuse. Not, ‘I’m busy tonight, I’m playing football.’ Nada.”

Holland said the idea to reach out to Haaland, 25, came after seeing him at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix in June.

“He was in a hospitality suite across from me. I just thought I’d shoot my shot, send him a text. I never imagined I’d talk about it on live television. But here we are,” he said.

While he was still keen to hang out, he joked: “I don’t think he’d have dinner with me after the other day,” referring to England’s quarter-final win over Norway at the World Cup.

Even though he has not made a new friend, Holland said Haaland was “incredible” and “an absolute legend”.

It comes after Haaland told Norwegian show A Laget he thought Holland was a random person when he came across the DM – despite the actor’s 65 million Instagram followers.

“I don’t watch movies much, so I have no idea who people are,” Haaland said.

“There was one asking if we could go out for dinner, but I’d never seen him, so I didn’t bother to answer. I didn’t want to answer an unknown person.”

However, fans quickly noticed Haaland followed Holland after he opened up about the snub – so perhaps dinner is on the cards after all.
