Matty J's embarassing Bachelor date with Laura Byrne: 'It didn't make it to air'

They're considered one of The Bachelor Australia's biggest success stories, but couple Matthew Johnson and Laura Byrne nearly didn't get their happily ever after.

Matty, 31, was worried a fart might come between him and his now fiancée.

The TV star made the revelation on his morning breakfast show on Nova 96.9, adding that thankfully the "gassy" moment never made it to air.

"The only thing I was worried about was a couple of times, one time in particular when I was on Laura's date and I passed wind," Johnson said, to the laughter of his fellow co-hosts Matt de Groot and Sarah McGilvray. "I was gassy!"

He added that "it was an accident" and unavoidable throughout the three months of on-again/off-again filming of The Bachelor Australia.

The incident didn't put a nail in the coffin of their romance, however, with the pair's love continuing long after the cameras stopped rolling.

Matthew and Laura celebrated the birth of their first child last month, a healthy baby girl named Marlie-Mae Rose Johnson after each of their grandmothers.

"You're more than we could have ever hoped for," Laura said of their daughter in a social media post at the time.

They're also busy planning a wedding, due to take place in Australia within the next year.

"I'm actually so excited to plan it," Laura told Now To Love. "I haven't looked at wedding dresses yet, honestly, I want to try and fit back into a wedding dress first."
