Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Teddi Mellencamp urges fans to get skin checks as she reflects on skin cancer battle

Teddi Mellencamp has opened up about her skin cancer battle as she urged fans to keep on top of their own health.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 43, and daughter of singer and songwriter John Mellencamp, shared a picture of her surgery scar on her shoulder for World Cancer Day, which fell on February 4.

In her post, Teddi told followers to "get your skin checks scheduled."

"It's #WorldCancerDay so I'd like to remind you to get your skin checks scheduled," she wrote.

"If this is your first time seeing this, I recently shared my full melanoma journey on @tscpodcast. Give it a listen when you have a chance. If it's not your first time, I hope it's a good reminder ❤️

"Who's making their appointment today?"

She added hashtags including "cure melanoma".

Mellencamp also opened up about her skin cancer battle on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast.

"I think I've had over 20 surgeries, I mean, have you seen my back?" she said.

"My last surgery I had over 800 stitches... I have to get checked every three months now.

"[The last appointment] It was the first time I haven't had melanoma... it was really big news."

Talking about her scar, she said, "It started out they took one out at a time, or two at a time. But for skin cancer, there's different stages for each one... so many more testing you need to do."

Mellencamp, who has split from husband Edwin Arroyave, recently revealed she had another spot on her arm removed, amid her battle with stage two melanoma.

"Trying to be positive and happy I can do this one awake. I just cry every time when I get the shots for some reason," she said at the time.

She believes the skin cancer was likely caused by her use of baby oil and iodine on her skin, which she did with the purpose of tanning when she was a teenager in the 1990s.
