The 22 hat tradition

One of the most heartwarming traditions to come out of the Eras Tour was Swift giving away the hat she wore to a fan each night while performing her hit song 22.

Each show, the pop star would share a special moment with a different fan selected from the crowd of thousands. To make the moment tug on the heartstrings even more, it was usually young girls Swift would trade a friendship bracelet and a hug with before gifting her fedora hat.

One of the most emotional interactions from this segment came from Swift's first stop in Sydney, when she shared a beautiful moment with nine-year-old Scarlett Oliver, who was battling brain cancer.

Oliver sadly died two months later in April, 2024.

Another memorable 22 hat moment had a heartbreaking celebrity connection.

For her first night performing in Los Angeles, Swift gifted her hat to late NBA star Kobe Bryant's daughter, Bianka.

The basketballer and his daughter Gianna died in a helicopter crash in 2020.

Kobe's wife Vanessa Bryant shared this photo capturing the adorable moment with the caption, "So special. 💕💕Bianka & @taylorswift".

Bianka and her mum and sisters later posed with Swift backstage at the show, with the 22 hat making the photo.

To make the moment even more special, Kobe had joined Swift on stage in 2015 to present her with her own championship banner at the Staples Center.

Travis Kelce attends his first show amid dating reports

While on the road, Swift debuted a new romantic relationship.

At the beginning of her tour, the singer split from her boyfriend of six years, British actor Joe Alwyn.

The pop superstar then briefly had a rumoured relationship with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy.

But in September 2023, she was spotted out at an NFL game with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce following weeks of dating speculation.

While Kelce had previously attended one of Swift's Kansas shows in June – where he famously tried to give her a friendship bracelet with his number on it – he made his first Eras Tour appearance since the dating rumours at the singer's second Buenos Aires show on November 11, 2023.

Kelce was spotted singing along and cheering on his rumoured girlfriend in the VIP section with her dad Scott Swift.

It was also during this historic night that Swift first changed the lyrics to her song Karma from "guy on the screen" to "guy on the Chiefs" as a nod to Kelce. She's since changed the line every time Kelce has been at her show.

A royal selfie

The Eras Tour has had no shortage of celebrity guests – and that includes a few royals in the crowd.

Swift kicked off her eight Wembley Stadium shows with a special backstage meet and greet with none other than Prince William and his children Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Swift took a selfie with the royal family in a glitzy blazer she wears on stage.

It was a special night for another reason, as William marked his 42nd birthday at the Eras Tour.

It seemed to be a fun night of celebrating for the Prince of Wales, who was spotted dancing his heart out to Shake It Off during the show.

Swift shared her own selfie taken with the royals to her Instagram account, except this time there was a special plus one in the background missing from the previous picture.

The pop star's boyfriend Travis Kelce joined in for the selfie with the royals.

"Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start 🇬🇧🇺🇸🤝" Swift wrote.

The biggest crowd of her career

The Eras Tour smashed many global records. But for Swift, her shows in Melbourne broke a personal attendance record with the pop star playing to the biggest crowd of her entire career.

Swift performed three nights at Melbourne Cricket Ground in February 2024, playing to a whopping 96,000 each night, with a total of 288,000 across all the shows.

"If I seem a little bit like I'm losing my mind over the fact that there are 96,000 people here tonight … it's because it's true," she told the crowd during her first night in Melbourne.

"This is the biggest show that we've ever done."

50,000 fans gather on a hill to watch in Munich

Swift has sold out shows around the world, with fans who didn't manage to grab tickets even gathering outside stadiums just to try and catch a note of Swift's performance.

This tradition became known as "Taylor-gating".

One of the most memorable occasions of this from the whole tour was when an estimated 50,000 fans gathered on top of the Olympia Berg Hill in Munich to listen to Swift's two Eras Tour shows in July.

"The crowds of 74,000 people a night in the stadium were so passionate, and so generous to us. And I had no idea before I got to Munich that there's a huge park behind the stadium, but around 50,000 people came out and listened to the show from the hillside both nights," Swift wrote on Instagram after the shows.

"I've been watching so many videos of the crowds out there fully participating in the show from afar, all that joy… I'm feeling really grateful for the unexpected memories this tour has created".
