Taylor Sheridan reveals he was homeless before getting his big break

Today, Taylor Sheridan is known as the preeminent creator of neo-western television and the man behind the Yellowstone empire. But in a new interview, he reveals it wasn’t all smooth sailing to get there.

Speaking with Town and Country, Sheridan opened up about his early days in Los Angeles as a struggling actor, revealing that he found himself homeless not once, but twice.

“I was homeless twice. I lived in my car. Sometimes I’d go to Ojai, just somewhere where I could safely sleep. I did that for six months,” he told the publication.

Reflecting on that period in his life, Sheridan said that he has no one to blame other than himself.

“I could have decided at any point, ‘I’m going to go get a full-time job and I’m going to give up this dream’. And I chose to sleep in my car over that,” he added.

Thankfully, Sheridan’s dedication has paid off; not only is he the man behind television hits including – but not limited to – Yellowstone, The Madison, Lioness and Landman, he’s also one of the largest landowners in Texas.

In season four of Yellowstone, viewers were introduced to the 6666 Ranch (pronounced The Four Sixes), a historic working cattle and horse ranch founded in 1870.

Then, just some months later, it was revealed that Sheridan was the proud new owner of the ranch.

Fans were led to believe that following the conclusion of Yellowstone, a 6666 Ranch spinoff series was in the works, with Sheridan later revealing it had been put on hold as he and Paramount worked together to find a way to do it right.

However, on August 19, 2026, Sheridan revealed that the spinoff series would no longer be going ahead.

“There’s never going to be one; I would never fictionalise that ranch,” Sheridan said during an appearance on the Rodeo Time podcast.

“If I was going to try and make some kind of show about the four sixes, now I’m making up lives. Now I have to invent a drama, right?

“We can’t just watch some kid learn how to rope every single episode, right? So now I’m trivialising and fictionalising something where real people work and they raise their families there.

“And I could never do that to them. I could never do that to the cowboys who’ve dedicated themselves and everybody that works on that ranch.

“I’m very protective of the sixes, and it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that brand. So, you know, I have to be very, very careful with it.”
