Taylor Sheridan reveals the fate of highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff

Taylor Sheridan has dashed the hopes and dreams of Yellowstone fans, confirming that the highly anticipated 6666 Ranch spinoff is nothing but a rumour.

Speaking on the Rodeo Time podcast, Sheridan said that despite what the public has believed, there was ‘never going to be’ a 6666 Ranch spinoff series.

“There’s never going to be one; I would never fictionalise that ranch,” Sheridan said when asked about the series.

The 6666 Ranch series was set to take place after the events of Yellowstone, following ranch hand Jimmy during his time in West Texas.

While the Yellowstone Ranch was fictionalised, the 6666 Ranch is a historic working cattle and horse ranch founded in 1870.

It first appeared in Yellowstone in season four at the end of 2021, then, in early 2022, Sheridan himself purchased the ranch.

“If I was going to try and make some kind of show about the four sixes, now I’m making up lives. Now I have to invent a drama, right?” Sheridan told podcast host Dale Brisby.

“We can’t just watch some kid learn how to rope every single episode, right? So now I’m trivialising and fictionalising something where real people work and they raise their families there.

“And I could never do that to them. I could never do that to the cowboys who’ve dedicated themselves and everybody that works on that ranch.

“I’m very protective of the sixes, and it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that brand. So, you know, I have to be very, very careful with it.”

Before Sheridan revealed that the series would be happening, fans were under the impression that the series had simply been put on hold while Sheridan and the team at Paramount worked carefully to find a way to make it work.

“That, for a number of reasons, needs a unique level of special care because this is a real place with real families working here,” Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter in 2023.

“You have to respect the lineage. I’ve told [the studio] to be patient.”

Currently, there are four Yellowstone spinoff series available to watch: Dutton Ranch, Marshals, 1923 and 1883. 1944 is reportedly in pre-production.
