WATCH: Sylvester Stallone shadowboxes Pope Francis during a meet-and-greet in Rome

Sylvester Stallone went back to his Rocky roots on a recent trip to Rome with his family – but some would say it probably wasn't the best time to do so.

In a new trailer for season two of his reality show The Family Stallone on Paramount+, the actor, 77, shadowboxed Pope Francis during a meeting.

Thankfully however, the pope, 87, and his security team took it lightly, and the religious leader was seen having a laugh with the Hollywood star.

Stallone met the pope alongside his family, wife Jennifer and daughters Sistine, Scarlet and Sophia, during their holiday to Italy.

"My dad started shadowboxing the pope," Scarlet said in the trailer, appearing a little bewildered by the incident.

Afterwards, the pope is seen blessing the family while they hold rosary beads.

In another part of the clip, the Hollywood star can be seen training and boxing as he kept up his fitness.

He also is seen having a tough talk with his daughter Scarlet's new boyfriend Louis, and saying: "Give me a reason to go ballistic."

The second season of The Family Stallone will premiere on February 21 on Paramount+.

General protocol for meeting the pope include modest clothing, including covered shoulders, and using the term His Holiness and Holy Father, rather than using his name.

Two months ago, Stallone candidly admitted on his daughter's podcast Unwaxed, that he was "embarrassed to be their father," in the early 2000s when work began to slow down for him.

"I felt so worthless. You didn't even really know what I did for a living," he shared with his daughters. He said they probably wondered why he "[wandered] around looking depressed."

His biggest role at the time was as the Toy Maker in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003), which his daughter Sophia playfully pointed out.

"When the good times go away, that's when you find out your family is so important," he said on a solemn note.

"The ship sailed on me, it was pretty bad. And I realised that people you thought were your friends are not your friends.

"I thought I was definitely done. The phone wasn't ringing."

Soon after this, he decided to reboot the franchise that made him famous with Rocky VI being released, 16 years after the commercial failure of Rocky V.

He also revived his other successful film franchise, Rambo, with it's fourth installment in 200, ensuring he was catapulted back into the spotlight.

Most recently, he featured in a Netflix documentary about his career, titled Sly.

The clan have appeared on The Family Stallone since May 2023.
