Reality TV star Skye Wheatley has opened up about “the worst two days of her life” after she was charged with drink-driving on the Gold Coast early this week.

Wheatley, 32, admitted that she misjudged how incapacitated she was after having a few drinks over several hours, saying she thought she was okay to drive.

“It was a major mistake on my end and I take full responsibility for my actions,” she told the Daily Mail.

“I genuinely thought I was fine to drive after having a couple of drinks over a long period, but I was wrong.

“It was a huge wake-up call for me and a reminder of how quickly things can turn around when you make a bad decision.”

The influencer and reality star said she parked outside a McDonald’s for four hours to try and sober up. A passerby called police during that time.

The mother of two allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.119 on Saturday while parked outside the fast food restaurant.

She is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on August 24.

She went on to tell the outlet that the fallout that followed led to the “worst two days of my life,” before urging her fans to think twice before getting behind the wheel.

“I want to use this as a warning to everyone else out there: don’t risk it, no matter how confident you feel,” she stated.

“Always arrange a safe ride home or stay put. I am deeply sorry for putting anyone at risk, and I will be accepting whatever consequences come my way.”

Just days after the incident, she took to her Instagram story to open but about the tough times she’s been going through lately.

“Sometimes, your own actions are the ones that cause you the most pain, but also I know why I avoided this for so long because I hate this feeling,” she wrote in a candid Instagram post on Wednesday.

“The unknown is scary but in your heart you know what’s right so you got this, you’ll be okay.”

In a second post, she emphasised that her first comment was not related to the drink-driving charge.

“That post was a separate matter to what everyone is messaging me about today. I will share soon, [I’m just] at a pretty low point in life right now and I’m dealing with a lot emotionally and mentally,” she wrote.

She went on to say she is “owning” her decisions and is hoping to learn from and grow through the difficult time.

Wheatley first rose to fame in 2014 after appearing on Big Brother Australia.
