Selena Gomez has opened up about the lifelong effects of vape addiction, revealing the bad habit permanently changed the sound of her voice. Instagram
“I’m not going to be able to change my voice,” she said in the clip. “I vaped nicotine a lot, and nicotine is so hard to quit.”
She went on to warn her fans against vaping, adding “it’s just not worth it.”
“It’s so stupid and it’s changed my voice. So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable. I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it.
“But I am really excited because I stopped [vaping] and I just hope I can keep it up. It’s really hard, but I know if you are going through something, you can get through it too.”
This is not the first time the singer has addressed the changes in her voice.
She previously told her 402 million social media followers that her voice changes were due to unexplained swelling in her throat during an Instagram Live.
“I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all. That’s good,” she said at the time.
Vaping has already been linked to lung and oral cancers, as well as a wide range of other health issues including fertility problems and higher levels of miscarriage.
Terrifyingly, the long-term effects of vaping are yet to be discovered.
Gomez has been open about her health struggles, including her battle with the autoimmune disease Lupus.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease. According to the Mayo Clinic, it “is a disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs”.

The singer, actress and Rare Beauty founder revealed on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast that her makeup products are designed in such a way that people with disabilities can open and use them easily.
"So I have a few medical things. But, I have arthritis in my fingers, and that's due to my lupus," she said on the podcast.
“So I remember before the brand, I was trying to open a water bottle and it hurt really bad before I was on the right medication.
"And we somehow inherently made the products easy to open, and then we realised, wait – they kind of have to be that way."
She said she was mindful of the packaging she used for her brand.
