Sarah Hyland breaks silence on domestic abuse: 'The only way out is through'

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has given a moving interview about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Matt Prokop.

Talking on The Meredith Vieira Show on Tuesday, the 23-year-old cites two quotes when asked about coping with the experience. Check out the video above.

She has previously only hinted about being the victim of domestic abuse. With the pair, who started dating in 2008, splitting earlier this year.

However, court documents filed by the star for a restraining order highlighted the extent of the abuse.

It was revealed she was pinned against a car and choked during an argument about her outfit in May.

Since parting ways, she revealed he had "relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats."
