Sir Rod Stewart has revealed he’s taken inspiration from Michael Jackson (and Queen Elizabeth) with his latest fashion choice in a bid to look after his health.

The 81-year-old rocker– who is recovering from a coronary stent procedure in August, done to treat an underlying heart blockage – said in a new interview his health has become a top priority in recent years.

“I treat my voice like the Crown Jewels,” he told The Sun.

“Pavarotti said, ‘I’m a prisoner of my voice’, and you are — you wake up, you say, ‘Oh, I’ve got an itch. I’m f---ed. I’ve got to cancel’. I’m totally paranoid about runny noses now.

“Now, when I go out, I wear white gloves like Michael Jackson. He did it to stop him catching colds and flu.”

Stewart suffered a series of health setbacks earlier in the year, which saw a number of concert dates cancelled on the US leg of his One Last Time tour.

The Maggie May singer suffered laryngitis and a sinus infection, but the most concerning moment came after battling a severe bout of bronchitis.

Stewart almost fainted on stage while performing at a high-altitude venue in Utah and was seen receiving oxygen in the wings.

The singer’s concern over his health also stems from battling prostate cancer 10 years ago, before getting the all-clear in July 2019.

Much to wife Penny Lancaster’s dismay, there’s one bad habit he’s yet to give up: he admits he still likes his alcohol. Instagram

The 81-year-old, who is getting ready for his final big world tour, says he treats performing “like being an athlete”, with rigorous training and looking after his body, especially while on tour.

But, much to wife Penny Lancaster’s dismay, there’s one bad habit he’s yet to give up: he admits he still likes his alcohol, but says it’s not the same as the drinking and drugs in his younger years.

“I wish I could curb my drinking, but I love wine with an evening meal,” he told the publication.

“I’ve got a great chef and I can’t drink water with a good meal.

“Penny says, ‘You must cut back, darling’. I only have a couple of glasses. But then, sometimes, I’ll get on the apple martinis and I can really knock those back.”

The famous performer is due to go back on tour for his The Final Encore shows across the UK, Europe and parts of the US from March next year.
