Richard Wilkins storms off TODAY set (jokingly, of course) over Sylvia Jeffreys' hair joke

TODAY entertainment editor Richard Wilkins has one of the most recognisable coifs on Aussie morning TV.

And this morning, it became the focus of a crack that ended with Richard walking off the set. Don't worry. He was only joking...we think.

It all started with a "Trending Now" segment video of an adorable boy trying to get his mum to look at something on TV, possibly a T-Rex.

Once the clip was over, Sylvia Jeffreys offered a theory as to why the toddler was so worked up.

"Maybe it's Dickie's hair," she said, pointing at the TV vet's gravity-defying 'do.

When it was suggested that Sylvia, 30, was implying Richard, 62, is a dinosaur (as in, older than dirt), Sylvia explained, "I'm saying he has magnificent hair."

Too late. Dickie was history.

We're pretty sure it was all in good fun, and most importantly, Dickie's hair survived being a punchline perfectly intact.
