Motörhead guitarist and rock legend Phil Campbell dies at 64: 'A long and courageous battle'
Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell has died at the age of 64.
The iconic Welsh musician's death was announced on his band Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons official Facebook page on Saturday. It was the band he performed in with his sons.
The statement revealed that he died "peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation".

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbell, who passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation," the statement read, underneath a black and white photograph of the musician.
"Phil was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud and loving grandfather, known affectionately as 'Bampi'.
"He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be missed immensely.
It went on to ask for privacy at this time.

"His legacy, music and the memories he created with so many will live on forever. We kindly ask that our family's privacy is respected during this incredibly difficult time."
The post got thousands of likes on Facebook and fans flocked to comment underneath.
"I was lucky enough to see Phil with Motörhead on numerous occasions. An amazing guy and a huge loss to the metal community. I'll be raising a glass to the Welsh W--ker," one fan commented.
Campbell was known and called 'Wizzo' by fans and achieved huge success in his music career.
He joined the iconic rock band Motörhead in 1984 following the departure of Brian Robertson, linking up with the likes of frontman Lemmy.
Lemmy – real name Ian Kilmister – died in California in 2015 at the age of 70.
Motörhead are known for hits including Ace of Spades, The Game and Hellraiser.
