Why Pamela Anderson is convinced people like her more without makeup

Pamela Anderson confessed that she feels her popularity has increased since going makeup free, though it has inspired strangers to make some interesting comments to her face - including "I never liked you before".

"I have people stop me on the street now and say, 'You know, I never liked you before, but I do now.' And then I think, 'Hmm, I know there's a compliment in there somewhere,'" she recently told Better Homes & Gardens.

The Baywatch star spoke with the outlet to share some insight into her private life on Vancouver Island, where she hides from the spotlight.

Anderson, 57, also revealed that people have been more receptive to her since she ditched the glam in 2023.

During Paris Fashion Week in 2023, Anderson debuted her makeup-free look and sent fans into a frenzy, even though she "didn't think anyone would even notice."

The star's motivation to ditch the cosmetics came when her longtime makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, died of breast cancer in 2019.

"I just felt, without Alexis, it's just better for me not to wear makeup," Anderson told Elle.

During her latest interview with Better Homes & Gardens, Anderson shared more on why she has elected not to wear makeup anymore. 

"It just happened to be this silly thing," the actress said, adding she didn't want to sit in a makeup chair for hours on end.

"I was appreciating it as this girl who lives on Vancouver Island that got plopped into these glamorous clothes," she said.

"I felt like this little freckle-faced kid with a big, beautiful Vivienne Westwood hat on."

But as she got older, Anderson started to break away from the "mask" that makeup often becomes and decided she wanted to challenge the idea of beauty.

She said: "As soon as I took the mask off, the whole world opened up."
