Pamela Anderson's makeup-free fashion week was sparked by tragic death of longtime friend: 'It's a journey'

Pamela Anderson has made quite the statement at Paris Fashion Week by turning up to a number of events bare-faced.

While she's being applauded for shifting beauty standards for women in their 50s, there is actually a tragic reason behind the Baywatch actress' decision to ditch makeup.

Anderson has been sporting the no-makeup look more and more recently, particularly the last few weeks as she jets to and from the various fashion weeks.

The actress is known for her iconic glam which includes pencil-thin eyebrows, overlined lips and a smoky eye, which she popularised in the '90s.

The look was actually created by Anderson's long-time makeup artist, Alexis Vogel, who died from breast cancer in 2019.

In a recent interview with Elle, Anderson talked about her decision to ditch makeup, which she says was largely due to losing her close friend and makeup artist, Alexis Vogel.

The actress explained that after Vogel's death, she didn't feel like there was much point to wearing makeup.

"She was the best," Anderson said of Vogel. "And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it's just better for me not to wear makeup."

Anderson also said the decision to ditch makeup was "freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too", especially with the mounting pressure women face to look a certain way as they age.

"I think we all start looking a little funny when we get older," the actress added in the interview. "And I'm kind of laughing at myself when I look in the mirror. I go, 'Wow, this is really ... what's happening to me?' It's a journey."

Anderson is joining a growing movement of women ditching foundation and sometimes makeup all together.

The actress was applauded by fellow actress, Jamie Lee Curtis on Instagram for the move.

"THE NATURAL BEAUTY REVOLUTION HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN! @pamelaanderson in the middle of fashion week with so many pressures and postures," Curtis wrote on Instagram alongside an image of Anderson at Paris Fashion Week.

"This woman showed up and claimed her seat at the table with nothing on her face. I am so impressed and floored by this act of courage and rebellion."
