Olivia Wilde has a 'no a--holes policy' after reportedly firing Shia LaBeouf

Olivia Wilde has one strict rule on set: No a--holes.

The 36-year-old participated in Variety's "Directors on Directors" series, where she opened up about her directing process for her upcoming film Don't Worry Darling.

In conversation with fellow filmmaker Emerald Fennell, she revealed she has a "strict no a--holes policy", which she implemented after allegedly firing Shia LaBeouf last year.

According to Variety, LaBeouf "exhibited poor behaviour and his style clashed with the cast and crew, including Wilde, who ultimately fired him."

He was replaced by Harry Styles.

Wilde, who directed 2018 film Booksmart, says that her policy is essential for her project's success.

"Someone, who's a very established actor and director in this industry, gave me really terrible advice that was helpful, because I just knew I had to do the opposite," Wilde revealed.

"They said, 'Listen, the way to get respect on a set, you have to have three arguments a day. Three big arguments that reinstate your power, remind everyone who's in charge, be the predator.' That is the opposite of my process. And I want none of that," she said.

She described her desire to create a more respectful and comfortable workplace as a "uniquely female instinct", then added that it eliminates a lot of unnecessary diva behaviour on set "that serves no one".

"The no assholes policy, it puts everybody on the same level," she explained. "I also noticed as an actress for years how the hierarchy of the set separated the actors from the crew in this very strange way that serves no one."

Rumours have spread recently that Wilde and Harry Styles have begun dating after he was cast in her film.
