At the time the actress rushed to leave the 81st Venice Film Festival early to be with her family in Australia.

''The final words my mama said, which I didn't know were going to be the final words, I was gonna get on a plane and go back and see her, and she said, 'Maybe wait a minute, because you just need to take care of yourself right now Nicky,"' Kidman said during a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning

''So I'm doing that more, and I say that to other people in the world. Particularly women. I think we tend not to care of ourselves.

Talking about motherhood, she added: "And obviously I'm an older mother and I want to be around a long time for my girls... I'm lucky to have them. Taking care of myself means so that I can take care of them."

Nicole and her sister Antonia issued a statement following the death of their mother, thanking fans and family for their support throughout the difficult time.

Two months ago, the actress dedicated her Palm Springs award for Babygirl to her late mother.
