1960s: Kidman might be one of Australia's biggest stars, but she was actually born in Hawaii, where her parents Antony and Janelle Kidman were based at the time, in June 1967.
"Reminiscing… wonderful memories with my mumma back in #Hawaii ❤️," Nicole wrote underneath this flashback photo of her and her mother together.
She holds dual Australian and US citizenship.
However, Nicole grew up in Australia, with her parents returning to the country. She grew up on Sydney's North Shore.
"It's where I grew up, it's my childhood," she once said on the The Ray Martin Show about her love for Australia.
"It's the trees, it's the humour... I mean there's so much about Australia that's so unique."
Nicole is close to her sister Antonia, 54, a journalist-turned-lawyer.
"To my darling sister - Happy Birthday, love sharing this life with you 🎂✨❤️," she wrote in this sweet birthday tribute to her little sister.
1983: One of Nicole's first – and now iconic – films is the Australian comedy action film BMX Bandits. It also starred Aussie actor David Argue.
It helped put a young Nicole on the map. She is pictured in Sydney following the release of the film.
"While I did do some of the riding in BMX Bandits, they also had a professional body stunt double... who was a teenage boy wearing a padded bra!" she said recently about some of the behind-the-scenes of the film, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
1990: Nicole is pictured with her now ex-husband Tom Cruise in Los Angeles, the actors wearing matching white shirts.
The former couple married that same year after meeting on Days of Thunder.
1992: The Aussie beauty is seen at the Los Angeles premiere of Far and Away, which she starred in alongside Cruise.
Despite her Hollywood-star beauty, Kidman once revealed she used to get bullied about her looks growing up.
Speaking in the In Vogue: The 90s documentary, she said: "I mean, I was a red-headed, fair-skinned girl who was almost 5'11 at the age of 14."
"I would get teased, and it wasn't kind."
But she remarked how incredible it was for her when designers soon came knocking, wanting to dress her for red carpet events when she first found fame.
1992: Nicole met Princess Diana at the premiere of Far and Away alongside Cruise in London, and looked thrilled to have met the late Princess of Wales.
1994: The former couple are seen putting on an affectionate display at the American Cinematique Honoring Rob Reiner event.
