The actor was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, and was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing. A service was held in his home state in Illinois, and he was laid to rest in New York.
Mortimer is being remembered as a devoted husband to wife of 25 years, Christie, and dad to daughter, Hunter.
“He was curious and determined, willing to take chances, start something new, change direction and figure things out along the way,” wrote his family in the obituary.
On the many roles in his life, his family continued: “He was an Army veteran, a model, an actor, an entrepreneur and a builder.
“But of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, the two that mattered most to him were husband and dad.”
“Of everything he accomplished in his life, nothing made him prouder than being her dad,” they wrote of his relationship with daughter Hunter.
After his cancer diagnosis, Mortimer and his wife founded the Integrative Access Foundation, to help cancer patients gain access to integrative therapies that might be otherwise unaffordable.
His family have asked for memorial gifts to be made to the foundation in lieu of flowers.
