Margot Robbie to return as Donna in the Neighbours finale this week

Margot Robbie is set to appear in the finale for the long-running Aussie soap Neighbours, which will air this week.

The show's official Twitter account revealed the news Robbie, 32, would return as her original character, Donna Freedman.

To the delight of fans, Donna isn't the only OG character who will make a return.

Former Ramsay Street stars Delta Goodrem, Jesse Spencer, Kym Valentine and Carla Bonner will also be making appearances, so look forward to the return of Nina, Billy, Libby and, of course, Steph Scully.

The iconic series wrapped filming in June after 37 years on the air, due to the loss of their "key broadcast partner in the UK".

As well as being a hit in Australia, Neighbours also took off in the UK, growing quite a big following.

The news was shared via the show's Twitter account back in March.

"We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June," they announced at the time.

"Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show.

"To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high.

"From here on, we are celebrating Neighbours."

Robbie reportedly filmed her appearance from Los Angeles, and will join cameos from other much-loved Ramsay Street faces including Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Natalie Imbruglia and more.

Robbie appeared on Neighbours from 2008 to 2011, from the age of 18 to 21.

Since then she has grown into a household name, with a strong Hollywood career behind her, starring in films including Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, I, Tonya and Bombshell, alongside Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron.

She will soon star as Barbie in Greta Gerwig's film Barbie alongside Ryan Gosling, who will star as Ken.
