Everything to know about the Logie Awards 2025

The day is almost upon us.

This Sunday, Australia's biggest stars will descend on Sydney's Star Casino for Aussie TV's night of nights – The TV Week Logie Awards.

With so much happening on the evening, it can be hard to keep track. So, we've compiled a handy list of everything you need to know ahead of this year's Logies.

Who is hosting The Logies?

Comedian Sam Pang is set to host The Logies for the third year in a row.

Pang has successfully delighted crowd for the past two years, but he has "warned" attendees ahead of his opening monologue at this year's ceremony.

Speaking with Fox 101.9's Fifi, Fev and Nick, Pang joked that after "three strikes... you're out".

"I know it's a long night for people that watch, but it's a fun night," he added.

"Hosting is fun. You have to do the monologue, but for the rest of the night it's pretty cruisy."

He then addressed the well-known difficulty of an awards show monologue – walking the fine line between playfully teasing attendees, and simply coming across as rude.

"I think it's in their best interest just to laugh along," Pang said of this year's attendees.

"Otherwise they're the story about how they can't take a joke! [They] should enjoy it, it's not mean-spirited, I'm having fun."

Last year, Pang made a joke directed at Home and Away star Ray Meagher, saying, "80 years old, what an institution! A nervous night for you, Ray, nervously waiting to see if you end up in the 'in memoriam' package."

"He laughs at it, everyone laughs, and everyone relaxes," the comedian recalled.

"If someone gives me the stink eye, it's more about them. Let's not be too earnest, let's have a bit of fun. It's not a roast, it's a celebration."

Why is it called The Logies?

You may have wondered where the name "Logie" comes from. To answer this, we'd have to cast our minds back to the early days of the award in the late 1950s, just a few years after television was first introduced to Australia in 1956.

The first ceremony for what we now know as The Logies took place in 1959 under the name TV Week Awards.

It was arranged by the Melbourne-based publication TV Week, which asked its audience to vote using coupons.

At the time, only Melbourne-based entertainers were nominated and chosen for awards, with the results broadcast on an episode of In Melbourne Tonight.

The show's host, Graham Kennedy, was the entertainer who won the most prestigious award of the night, Star of the Year.

The following year, when he won again, Kennedy decided to name the award the Logie Awards, after John Logie Baird, the Scottish engineer and innovator who demonstrated the world's first mechanical television system and developed it as a practical medium.

From then on the awards were known as the Logie Awards, with the Star of the Year award becoming the coveted Gold Logie.

Graham Kennedy later ended up having his own award named after him, the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent.

This was later joined by the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter, and this year there will be a brand new award celebrating yet another Aussie TV legend.

The Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Reporter makes its debut in 2025, named after the veteran Australian television journalist and presenter who has 14 Logies to his name, five of them Gold.

Known for his in-depth interviews, investigative reporting, and engaging storytelling work on 60 Minutes, A Current Affair and Four Corners, Martin will be taking to the Logies stage to present his award to the recipient.

When and were are the Logie Awards in 2025?

This year, like the last two, the Logies will be hosted in Sydney at The Star Hotel in Pyrmont on Sunday August 3, 2025.

This year's event will be hosted by comedian Sam Pang, who has taken the helm of the awards show for the last two years.

How to watch the Logie Awards 2025?

The Logie Awards are attended by nominees, media, and other industry members and so the ceremony is closed to the public and no tickets are available to see the event up close.

However, Aussies can catch every moment on TV. The awards will be broadcast live on Channel Seven, so they can see if their hard work voting has paid off.

How to vote for the Logie Awards 2025?

Voting for the Logie Awards is open from today and will remain so until Friday August 1, 2025 until 7pm AEST.

This timing excludes the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter, Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent and the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Reporter, for which voting will close on Sunday August 3 at 7:30pm AEST.

Voting for the Gold Logie will close on Sunday August 3 at 10:30pm AEST, with those watching at home able to vote until the very last second.
