Pop star Lizzo is the latest overseas artist to get Australia's tick of approval thanks to her on-stage 'shoey' at a concert in Sydney.

The Truth Hurts singer, 35, was performing the first of her two Sydney shows at Qudos Bank Arena when she was presented with a bottle of tequila from a fan in the crowd.

Lizzo had been interacting with fans and signing autographs when she was given a stick with a few Australian props, including a stuffed koala and a small bottle of alcohol.

The crowd roared with delight as the pop star questioned what a 'shoey' even was, before she proceeded to drink the bottle from her glittery boot.

"My shoe?" she asked the arena. "My shoe is disgusting. I can't drink out of my f---ing shoe, what's wrong with ya'll?"

In true Australian fashion, the crowd of thousands chanted "shoey" until Lizzo finally relented.

But she wasn't keen on drinking the tequila straight from her sweaty shoe. Instead, she placed the bottle inside her boot and chugged it in front of her thousands of fans.

"Australia, how are you guys still walking if that's how you take shots?" she asked the crowd.

She is due to perform again at Qudos tonight to wrap up her Australian leg of the Special tour before heading to Auckland on July 26.

The US singer joined a long list of global artists who have been peer-pressured into performing shoeys on stage during concerts in Australia.

In February this year, Harry Styles amused the crowd in Perth after drinking water out of his shoe to kick off his Australian concert tour.

Rapper Post Malone also did a shoey at almost every gig when he supported the Red Hot Chili Peppers during their Aussie tour earlier this year.
