Lily Allen reveals she rehomed dog after it destroyed her family's passports

Singer Lily Allen has copped backlash after she casually admitted to rehoming her pet dog when it destroyed some important documents.

The Smile singer told the story on her podcast, Miss Me?, after being asked about the commitment of getting a pet dog with her husband, actor David Harbour.

"We actually did adopt a dog together already, but then it ate my passport. And so I took her back to the home," she said.

She explained, "She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas in. And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced because it was in COVID. And so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare."

The Grammy award winner said that it made the situation difficult for her children, whose father (her ex-husband Sam Cooper) lives in England.

"I couldn't get them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f--king dog had eaten the passports," she said.

"I just couldn't look at her. I was like, 'you've ruined my life'."

Allen said that passports were not the only item the dog ate, but that incident was "the straw that broke the camel's back".

"She was a very badly behaved dog. And I really tried very hard with her, but it just didn't work out," the singer said.

Allen received harsh criticism from fans after she cavalierly revealed the truth.

"Training dogs is easy. Dogs are NOT 'badly behaved' - they are 'untrained' by the humans that are responsible for them. This is a sad listen. Shame on you, Lily Allen," said one disappointed person on X, formerly Twitter.

"She obviously should never have a dog again. Her former dog's misbehaviors are on her, not the dog," added another fan, while one called her actions "truly outrageous".

Elsewhere in the podcast, Allen mentioned that her family are getting ready to welcome a new pup to the family.

Allen shared that she and her daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, have been brainstorming a name for the new Chihuahua mix and plan to go with Jude Bellingham after the English football player.
