Larry King's grief-stricken sons pay tribute to their late father in heartfelt message

The sons of Larry King have spoken out following the iconic broadcaster's death over the weekend.

Larry Jr., 59, Chance, 21, and Cannon King, 20 released a statement via Facebook on January 24, expressing their grief over their dad's passing at the age of 87. 

"We are heartbroken over our father's death, and together with our extended family mourn his passing," reads the statement posted to the social media platform.

"The world knew Larry King as a great broadcaster and interviewer, but to us he was 'dad.' He was the man who lovingly obsessed over our daily schedules and our well-being, and who took such immense pride in our accomplishments — large, small, or imagined."

They added that despite their father's career and successes, his family remained his top priority. 

"And, through it all, we knew without a doubt in the world that he loved us more than life itself," the statement continued. "He was an amazing father, and he was fiercely loyal to those lucky enough to call him a friend. We will miss him every single day of our lives."

They ended their heartfelt tribute by asking fans to donate to the American Heart Association or the Beverly Hills Fire Department EMS, both of which they felt "a debt of gratitude is owed for the wonderful care they provided to our dad in his final years".

King sadly died on Saturday in LA. While his official cause of death has not been announced, the broadcaster had been hospitalised in ICU with COVID-19 just weeks ago.

King was married eight times to seven women (one of which he wed twice) and he produced five children from his unions: sons Andy, Larry Jr., Chance, and Cannon, and daughter Chaia. Tragically, Andy and Chaia — died last year, within a month of each other.
